Laser hair reduction (LHR) has proved to be a safe and effective means of getting rid of unwanted hair. The term permanent hair reduction is more appropriate and informative than the term permanent hair removal. Variety of lasers are now available to successfully reduce unwanted hair. Hair removal lasers have been in use since 1997 and have been approved for "Permanent Hair Reduction" in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Under the FDA's definition,"Permanent" hair reduction is the long term stable reduction in the number of hair regrowing after a treatment regime.
Hair Growth Cycle
The hair contains melanin only in anagen phase of development and thus are susceptible to injury. During a particular point of time, not all hair are in anagen phase, hence multiple treatments are necessary to treat all the hair follicles. Laser works on the hair in the anagen phase. The spacing between the session is done on the basis of the hair cycle of that particular area.
